Kathak Workshop – Pt. Rajendra Gangani Ji

A three-day Kathak workshop was conducted by Pt. Rajendra Gangani ji at Nalanda Nrityakala Mahavidyalaya on 11, 12 and 13 November 2025. The workshop was organized exclusively for the current Kathak students of the institution.

During the sessions, Pt. Gangani ji focused on:

Fundamentals and clarity of tatkaar

Practice of aamad, paran, tukde, tora

Improvement of chakkar technique

Use of layakaari in Jaipur gharana style

Introduction and practice of T?ivat, including its structure and rhythmic patterns

Application of abhinaya in traditional compositions

Importance of daily riyaz and discipline in dance training

Students received practical corrections, detailed explanations of technique, and guidance on stage presentation. The session on T?ivat helped students understand the combination of sargam, bols, and rhythmic patterns, enhancing their sense of tala and musicality. Overall, the workshop strengthened their grounding in Jaipur gharana principles and provided valuable methods to improve regular practice.
