Day 1 of the Workshop on “Caris and Karanas – The Kanak Rele Way”

Nalanda Dance Research Centre and Nalanda Nrityakala Mahavidyalaya, under IQAC in collaboration with the Student Council and Alumni Association, organized a two-day workshop on “Caris and Karanas – The Kanak Rele Way” as part of Kanak Smriti celebrations.

The workshop was conducted by Dr. Smt. Malati Agneshwaran, who shared insights from the teachings of Padma Bhushan Guru Dr. Smt. Kanak Rele.

Day 1 introduced the concepts of Caris and Karanas, with reference to classical texts like the Natya Shastra, Abhinaya Darpana, and Sangita Ratnakara. Caris were explained as foundational leg movements, while Karanas were described as coordinated movement units of the body.

Day 2 of the workshop, led by Dr. Smt. Malati Agneshwaran, continued with an engaging practical session focused on Caris and Karanas in the Kanak Rele tradition.
The session began with the continuation of Karanas from Swastika Karana onwards, where students were guided through demonstrations and technical corrections.

By the end of the session, all 108 Karanas were successfully completed, making the workshop a valuable learning experience.
The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to Dr. Malati Agneshwaran for her guidance and insights. The two-day workshop proved to be enriching and insightful for all students.
