Nalanda had the honor of hosting the esteemed Guru Smt. Chitra Visveswaran Ji, whose presence and insights deeply impacted the students who attended the session. This event provided a unique opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the world of classical dance and gain a deeper understanding of its spiritual and artistic dimensions.
Guru Smt. Visveswaran shared her personal journey, revealing how art "chose" her, rather than the other way around. She reflected on the serendipitous nature of her path and how the guidance of her Gurus was instrumental in shaping her artistry and identity. Her narrative offered students valuable lessons in both creativity and personal growth.
Through her reflections on Bharatanatyam, Guru Smt. Chitra Visveswaran highlighted the importance of the Shastras, the teachings of ancient poets, and the wisdom of Saints in shaping the path of an artist. She emphasized how these sacred traditions provide not only artistic depth but also a pathway to spiritual elevation and self-realization.
One of the most memorable moments of the session was when Guru Smt. Visveswaran performed Abhinaya—expressive storytelling through dance. The performance, which showcased intricate gestures, expressive facial movements, and graceful transitions, beautifully brought out the Rasa (emotional essence) of the art form, leaving the students in awe.
The event was an invaluable experience for all students, expanding their understanding of Bharatanatyam and reinforcing the powerful connection between dance, spirituality, and self-expression. Nalanda is grateful to have hosted such an inspiring figure and looks forward to more opportunities for students to engage with artists who shape and redefine the world of classical art.
